Band Camp 2010

Parents: Volunteers Needed!

Dear Band Parents,

You might think “Band Camp 2010” is far off, but this is the time we start preparing for this special experience for band members. Below is a list of opportunities for your involvement and what we need to get to Band Camp 2010!

Equipment/luggage-Truck Drivers: 4 drivers (2 for the ride there and 2 for the ride home).

Bus Chaperones: 12 chaperones--6 for the ride there and 6 for the ride home. Report at the same time as the band members and come back on the bus with the driver OR meet the bus drivers at Brush (about 9:30am), ride the bus to camp and chaperone the ride home.

Room Inspectors: 8 inspectors (one per floor, but 2 per floor is ideal as this has to be finished by the time the kids arrive and it just goes faster with 2). Even though we don’t occupy all eight floors of Lawrence Tower, we are responsible for all the floors/rooms so all must be inspected. Arrive at Edinboro University by 10:00am (we usually car-pool). Pick a floor, use the pre-printed sheets I'll provide and mark off any defects. Why do we inspect the rooms: so we don't have to pay for any damages claimed by the university that were pre-existing. YEA!

Check-in Staff: 6 people (one per occupied floor). Arrival time should be at least an hour before the students arrive (we car-pool for this, too). Pick a floor, obtain the room keys and meal cards from University housing staff at the Tower. Tables will be in the common room, one for each floor. Mr. Leyrer will have assigned students to specific rooms and the assignment sheet for each floor will be provided to you. On the sheet, next to band member’s name, write in the key code number (found on envelope and key) and the number on the meal card. Using a Sharpie, write the name of the band member on their meal card, attach the room key and meal card to the lanyard and put it back in the envelope. Place envelopes on the table in numerical order and as band members arrive at your table, place a check next to their name on the sheet and give them their lanyard.

Overnight Chaperones: At least 3 same-sex chaperones for each floor: 9 female and 6 male chaperones for the current 5 floors assigned. You do not have to stay all 5 days, but covering at least 2-3 days seems to work best. Chaperones have their own room (one (1) by the elevator and one (1) closest to each of the two (2) stairwells).

This is really a great event for all who get involved. It’s not only fun, but impressive to see how hard our kids work at their music, marching and bonding with each other. The nightly activities are a pleasure (the skits are creative and hilarious): it is simply a special experience for everyone.
